Should I attempt to get this Xbox 360 repaired and how?

this is a pretty messed up story, but my brother’s xbox 360 got the red ring of death like a year ago. since he’s dumb, he decided to never do anything about it, expecting my mom to buy him a new one soon. anyways, my mom told me if i can get it repaired, it’ll be mine. i know nothing about xbox (aside from playing guitar hero) so i looked on some sites as to how to get it repaired and found some real horror stories about people having to have legal battles with microsoft to get their xbox repaired, waiting hours on the phone just to speak with someone for help or questions, waiting months to get xboxes back, and weird things like that. i want to know, since the xbox 360 was broke like a year ago, should i even attempt to send it back for repairs or just give up?

Call them, they haven’t given me any trouble the four times I’ve had to send them mine! It’s 18004mybox if I remember correctly. if its been sent in already you have to know the info you gave them last time. They extended the warranty on rod errors to 3 years so if you do have rod you might be still under warranty. Its usually about a month turnaround. They pay Shipping both ways, all you hafta do is drop it off.
