I was on the fence to the tracks 8500 and other local dimming models worth it. The dark black in color and very rich, sharp color display is just tears …. When you watch movies that are letterboxed blacks are so dark I see a panel TV – they disappear and do not interfere with monitoring … If you use a video game on TV in the “game” or a slight delay from the stick to scroll the screen, I think that part of the button on the TV the way he plays, but I do not have to drill down the remote and turn off the menu, or … . LCD on any must play switched to the right place.

Ceva is my carrier, the TV took three days longer than the expected date of arrival, I had to call the delivery deadlines for yourself, because nobody called me – Amazon’s fault … but it was professionally delivered and removed from the box and setup for me. It took about 15 minutes, rather than hang around waiting to be tipped.

If your fence line with local dimming lights can say is that there is a huge difference – if the price is the main point then you have to look at the different models since 8500 is all about local dimming – in plasma resulted in a deep black kit.

Wow

So, I’m sure I’m like about 95% of the people that shop on Amazon. You read review after review…maybe do some non-Amazon research… And you wonder in the back of your mind whether the reviewers are people that work for the product manufacturer…or whether they’re working for the competition. So, I always take everything with a grain of salt…and so should you as you read my review. And fair warning, I am not a techno-type guy, so I don’t know all of the terms…de-judder, etc.

After many weeks of agonizing, painstaking research, I finally decided to jump in feet first on what I would consider a top-of-the-line TV. I looked at tons of reviews. I thought about everything from an LG LED TV (I think it’s like the LH90 or something) to the Samsung LN46B650, LN46B750 to the Pioneer Kuro to the Sony’s to the…well, you get the point. I flip-flopped back and forth over the value of ordering on-line versus buying local. I worried about shipping issues. And of course, generally speaking, if you ever have to deal with product returns/repairs, it seems there are very few words of praise that get doled out about customer service.

Well, my praise will be short and sweet. I love this TV. I have had it for about 3 weeks now. I’ve used it with and without external speakers. I have not hooked up all of the internet capability of the TV yet, but plan on doing so shortly.

As far as plug and play…it was a cinch. I haven’t tweaked/calibrated anything (and frankly don’t know if I will) because the picture is absolutely stunning. Despite all of the comments otherwise about TV’s these days, the sound is decent. I know I paid a premium for this TV, but as far as I could tell, it was the only truly back-lit LED Samsung TV. And with their 2010 line-up going with the edge-lit, I decided to pull the trigger. I’d do it again. Everything is so lifelike. I put in the BBC “Planet Earth” blu-ray and it was magical. The colors explode from the TV…and while it’s not 3D, it’s pretty much the deepest picture I could imagine without wearing 3D glasses. It feels like you’re in the scenes of “Lost”…sweating on the island, feeling the rustle of the palm fronds. I am quite convinced that this is the best TV on the market right now.

I’d very highly recommend this TV to anyone that is willing to pay a little bit of a premium. I’m hoping that the picture will be as beautiful for years to come until the 3D technology is ironed-out and blowing peoples eyes out of their sockets.

The Best TV I have ever Seen!!

I have gone through a multitude of TV’s over the past 2 months on trying to find the perfect TV. I started with the Samsung 46B650 than to the Samsung un46b6000. After getting tired of the brightness on the edge and corners of the tv, I bought the Sony Ex700 to try a different brand. That lasted about a week because I took a hard hit in picture quality and design. I finally gave in to the $2000 price tag of the the Samsung 8500. I do not regret one single thing about this purchase. The local dimming offers the deepest blacks and the brightest colors I have ever seen in a tv. I have not personally seen the pioneer kuro so I cannot compare. I have researched multiple reviews of tv’s on cnet and I can say that this tv is simply the best Tv out there.

I thought about the new 2010 models that Samsung released recently but they don’t have the local dimming technology that the 8500 has.

If anyone has the money to purchase this TV, I highly recommend it.

Great picture, horrible remote, customer service

From best to worst:
1. The picture on this thing is great. Clear, sharp, nice contrast (local dimming!).
2. The internet TV features are so so. Internet widgets take forever to load, and are not that good. You’re better off hooking up an internet connected laptop and doing things that way.
3. Media playing capabilities are also so-so. A clunky user interface, and not that easy navigating between and within files and folders.
4. The remotes how do I say it politely, suck. They must have been drinking too much soju when designing these things. The main remote is radio frequency?! Drop it, flop a cushion on it, no matter which way it points, how deeply buried into your couch, it activates whatever random button got hit. What the heck were they thinking? People might want to turn on their TV and change channels while it’s enclosed in their media armoire? Maybe if you’re a bar owner and have to change the channel while standing behind it? Or you have a wallfull of these things and you need to make sure you only activate one at a time? For 99% of the likely users out there, I’m guessing it’s useless to have a radio frequency remote. You can’t even use it to train a learning remote (no infrared, duh). So much better to have an infrared remote that only works when you’re pointing at the TV you want. The other “mini” remote is infrared, but has only power, channel up/down, volume up/down. One more button, source change- would have made it so much better. As is, not much good for training a universal remote either.
5. Samsung customer survice, likewise, next to useless. They tell you “no infrared remote is available for this”. But the mini-remote IS infrared! Unlike the top review, Terence McCartney(sp?), who seems to have gotten a second remote (guessing one for the B6000 series)for free, no amount of arguing (offering to exchange for my existing, essentially new remote) would they consider an exchange. “We’ll give you the parts department to see if you can purchase one”. grrr. Add in the cost of a new infrared remote if you’re buying one of these.

Awesome HDTV!

This is by far the best LCD on the market today. No other LCD can touch the performance of this backlit LED. Excellent blacks. You’ll want to get it professionally calibrated since it is a little too blue and bright out of the box, but once you do you’ll really see the beauty of this set. The picture quality is amazing. Blu Rays look ridiculous.

In summary, phenomenal TV. A “must buy” for anyone with the means and desire to get a top notch set.

BUY IT ! This is the best TV on the market as of April 2010 !

I have spent one month with two brand new TVs from BestBuy in order to make the following review here.

This is the best TV you can buy below $7K. Yes, in fact, one of Pioneer’s Kuro models is probably a better TV which cost about $7K if you want to spend that much and if you can find it. If you don’t, then the only option is this TV, and it is not a bad option.

Yes, it has Ugly remote
Yes, it has Un-stylish Glossy Bezel
Yes, it has A Bit lengthy installation of of the stand
Yes, it has a non-innovative menu
Yes, It was delivered late.

YET, this TV has the best picture available in any LCD/Plasma/LED HDTV out there.

POSITIVES:

BLACK LEVELS——–Black levels with this unit are second to none. I doubt that any other TV can reach the black level perfection as 8500. Perhaps the fact that this TV has back-lit, not edge-lit unlike most of the other LED TVs on the market is the reason. Or, the reason might be that Samsung is the NEW SONY of 2010s.

Experience: I tested and returned two Sony TVs before getting this from Amazon: Sony BRAVIA XBR Series KDL-46XBR9 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV, Black and Sony Bravia EX700 Series 46-Inch LED HDTV, Black. XBR9 was very good in picture quality (and design) but failed miserably in black levels. EX700 was horrible in simple terms; both in black levels and picture quality. Eventually, I have decided to get the TV with best reviews on Amazon, which was the 8500. In fact, if you look at it, all the reviews are 4 star and above, except few which was not the reviews of the TV but the delivery service. BestBuy did not have the 8500 but 8000 series for some reason. Lucky, this forced me to buy it from Amazon which had one of the lowest prices on the Internet.

I don’t even dare to calibrate it much. Out of box, the picture is perfect (except the 240 Hz needs to be turned of to get rid of the artificial effect of daytime soap operas).

NEGATIVES:
(if I must to list some negatives, however, picture quality nullifies any negatives about this TV)

-Not unique to Samsung, but thick bezels are very unappealing. Sony seem to be one who paid attention design aspects of TVs (but not the picture quality).
-If you move few feet from the center, picture quality gets grayish; concern for some but not me.
-Ugly remote, but most use the remote coming with cable provider anyways, not a big deal.
-No Netflix or Blockbuster. I tested Netflix with XBR9, 720p online content was very appealing. perhaps Samsung will have a firmware update for it, or I might get a Blu-Ray player with Netflix.

CONCLUSION:
Yes. Yes. Yes… BUY this TV. I heard that none of the 2010 Samsung TVs will have full back-lit LED. So, this remains to be the only model with full back-lit.

This has been an excellent transaction. Thanks Amazon..

Samsung un46b8500 is awesome

The picture on this television is amazing. It was definately worth the money. The picture is bright and crisp. The only weak spots are 1. in extreme motion you can still get some slight lag- even with the 240hz and 2msec response time 2. there is a general lack of detail in the blacks and the remote is not universal. The remote is kind of neat in that it has an ipod like control to shuffle through the controls and has a sensor so that every time you pick it up, it becomes backlit. I love this tv and was definitely the best of what is currently available.

Excellent HDTV

This is my first HDTV. It looks wonderful! I have also been impressed with the SD coming through the TV. I downloaded the manual from Samsung first to review the manual and the connectivity options. There are limited connections, but this should not be a problem if you are using a receiver as the hub of your entertainment center. Right now I have component hooked up for my DVD player and HDMI for satellite. The DLNA allows viewing of pics, video, and listening of music from your computer wirelessly. The enclosed disk does not support Mac, but I downloaded a free program, TVMobili, from the Net, and DLNA seems to work just fine. The thinness and low weight of the TV are both very impressive. Also, the Xbox 360 via HDMI looks just fabulous. Oh, I had no problem with CEVA, the local company contracted to deliver. No issues at all.
